The School of Dentistry, Amoud College of Health Sciences, organized an event on Friday, January 13th, 2018 to highlight the recurrent challenges experienced by the Somaliland community today in terms of health issues. The event was organized at Rays hotel, Borama Town, starting 8.00pm. The students performed a skit (a short informal performance intended to educate or inform.) where the theme was various meant to highlighted such cases as patients trying to diagnose themselves, or prescribing medication for themselves and even going ahead to place others on medication based on the patient's "experience" or self assessed "obvious symptoms" without ensuring laboratory tests and medical check is performed by a trained and qualified medical practitioner. In addition, The skit was meant to educate the population on need for seeking professional help and not rely on quacks for serious medical attention as this may have negative repercussions for the health of the patient in future or pause immediate danger to the life of the patient.
Present during the event was the host, Dr. Abdirashid Omar Ibrahim, the Dean school of Dentistry, Amoud College of Health Sciences, the Chief guest, Prof. Mohamed Mohamoud Jamaa "Derie", Vice President for Public Relations, Community Outreach and Extra Curricular, Amoud University, Dr. Said Ahmed Walhad, Principal, Amoud College of Health Sciences, Dr. Ismail Mohamed Ayeh, Dean School of Medicine and surgery, Amoud University, Mr. Abdinasir Dahir Egeh, Assistant Dean Office of Students Affairs and Counselling Services (OSACS), Amoud University, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Murud, Dean, Department of Freshman Studies, Amoud University and several other invited guests.
Amoud University typically encourages students participation in such extra curricular activities involving through sports, games, and other forms of entertainment to help them bond, clear their heads and relax their minds from the thoroughness of books and studies at the university.
